Background & Early Career

Born in Poperinge, Belgium, Gruwier showed an early passion for visual art. He pursued formal artistic training at the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, earning a degree in graphic design and illustration. He spent his early career working as a professional illustrator, graphic artist and art teacher. This intensive background in design honed his rigorous understanding of draughtsmanship, perspective and composition — skills that eventually provided the foundation for his full-time transition into fine art watercolour.
